He was supposed to be a phase.
A mistake.
A lesson learned and left behind.

When nineteen-year-old Sergio Rodriguez meets Henry Bullock, a brilliant, successful man nearly four decades older, nothing about it fits the rules Sergio has been taught about love, family, ambition, or the future. What begins as attraction grows into something far deeper and far more complicated than either of them expects. Across the years, through disapproval, sacrifice, reinvention, illness, and the arrival of an unexpected third heart in Kevin, their lives become bound together in ways none of them could have imagined. Told across fourteen years, I Didn’t Know the Rules Until He Taught Me to Break Them is a moving novel about chosen family, enduring devotion, and the quiet ways love changes us long before we understand what it is.
